About John Winters

For those who don't yet know me, my name is John Winters — I'm a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist who has worked within professional sport, the military and the public health sector.

Over the years I've seen so many people living with acute and chronic pain from an injury, an activity, or a surgical procedure, left frustrated trying to get access to effective therapy and rehabilitation. Too often, that means a trip to the doctor, being told to rest and take painkillers, and then returning weeks later with nothing having changed.

That's why I set up JW Physio Clinic — to give people in Essex a genuine alternative: proper hands-on treatment, and a clear plan to get back to being active, working, and spending time with the people who matter to them.

We've been nominated for numerous therapy awards, and most recently won the South England Physiotherapy Clinic of the Year Award in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Our team's experience across professional sport, the armed forces and specialist NHS settings has helped make JW Physio Clinic one of the most highly rated clinics in Essex — we're still trusted by Olympic and professional athletes, as well as high-profile individuals, because of that experience and skill set.

Is Physiotherapy Right For You?

If you've been let down by long NHS waiting lists, generic exercise sheets, or treatment that didn't get to the root of the problem, you're not alone — and it isn't your fault. Public healthcare services are stretched thin, but that shouldn't mean you go without the treatment you actually need.

If you're struggling with a pain that's stopping you playing padel, going to the gym, or simply enjoying everyday life the way you used to, we understand how frustrating that is — and we've helped a great many people work through exactly that, back to being active and pain-free.

What We're About

You can feel like yourself again with the right support from specialists genuinely dedicated to your recovery. We build tailor-made treatment plans rather than applying a standard protocol regardless of who's in front of us — because finding the right therapist who understands your specific injury and goals makes all the difference.

The Power of Taking Action

Kate was dedicated to recovery. Kate had unresolved neck pain for over four months, and had followed her GP's advice to rest and take painkillers — but every time she returned to work, the symptoms came straight back. She came to us stressed, having been signed off work, with her mental health affected too. From her first consultation, Kate was fully committed to attending every session, and we were able to support a full recovery through targeted treatment and rehabilitation.

Henry needed expertise and a plan. Henry came to us with lower back pain that had progressively worsened over four weeks, and had to stop playing competitive football as a result. Rest and ice weren't helping. After an in-person assessment, we built an immediate plan to address the pain. Henry's discomfort reduced significantly through our treatment techniques, and after six weeks of weekly therapy he was back in full training and competitive matches at the weekend.

Padel Injury FAQs

Many patients notice meaningful improvement within 4 to 6 weeks of regular therapy, though this varies depending on the injury and how long it's been present.

We generally recommend one or two sessions per week for the fastest recovery, though it's ultimately up to you how often you attend, and your physio will advise what's right for your specific injury.

Our team is trained across a range of approaches — musculoskeletal, neurological and sports rehabilitation, acupuncture, spinal adjustment techniques, guided exercise, sports massage and cupping therapy — tailored to what each patient actually needs.

Our team brings substantial experience treating a wide range of muscular and skeletal issues, including injuries specific to racket sports like padel.

Waiting Around vs Getting Seen Quickly

If you're weighing up where to get help, it's worth knowing what the two paths tend to look like in practice.

Going down the standard route often means: waiting weeks or months to be seen; a brief, checklist-style appointment rather than hands-on treatment; being handed repeat prescriptions or referred toward surgery you may not need; and sometimes, without the right guidance, the problem getting worse in the meantime.

Coming to JW Physio Clinic generally means: being seen quickly, often the same week; professional advice specific to your injury and your sport; genuine one-to-one rehabilitation sessions rather than a generic handout; and a clear plan to get back on court without unnecessary delay.

Why Work With JW Physio Clinic

  • You'll be in control of your recovery, rather than pain dictating what you can and can't do
  • Many patients are back running and playing sport within around three months
  • You can avoid an unnecessary reliance on pain medication
  • You won't be stuck on a long NHS waiting list
  • You'll leave each session with a clear, specific plan for what comes next

How Does It Work?

Rather than waiting weeks or months for an appointment, you can request a consultation and often be seen the same week. Instead of a generic checklist-style session, you'll get a bespoke rehabilitation plan built around your specific injury, your sport, and your goals. And whether you're in clinic or not, our reception team is on hand to answer questions and help with anything you need along the way.

As part of our partnership with Padel District Waltham Abbey, this initial consultation — whether by phone or face-to-face — is completely free, with no obligation to book further treatment.
